In a continuation of last year’s trend, the 2008 model year sees a number of new and redesigned crossover SUVs. Buick’s new three-row Enclave full-size crossover has room for either seven or eight, depending on the seating configuration, and a 275-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine. Toyota’s redesigned 2008 Highlander SUV is larger and features numerous standard safety features, including side curtain airbags and an electronic stability system.
In the small-crossover segment, Nissan debuts its new Rogue, and Saturn launches a redesigned Vue. The Rogue has room for five people, and its four-cylinder engine drives a continuously variable automatic transmission that can be controlled by the driver via optional steering-wheel paddles. Saturn’s redesigned Vue sports an improved interior that can have an optional navigation system and leather seats.

Jeep has redesigned its Liberty, and the SUV can have an optional Sky Slider roof that features a movable canvas top. The Ford Escape gets new exterior and interior styling.

Despite rising gas prices, V-8 engines still hold a certain allure, and the Nissan Pathfinder adds a 5.6-liter V-8 for 2008. Hummer’s larger H2 SUV gets a more upscale cabin and a larger, more powerful V-8, and the Lexus LX 570 gets a new 5.7-liter V-8 that makes 381 hp as part of its redesign.
